How to enhance the fuel efficiency of the car?

The reason that your car is troubling you or asking for more frequent stops at the local gas station is due to its poor mileage. The occurrence of these could be due to several components that together provides a better mileage of the vehicle. Following are crucial factors that you need to consider if you wish to improve the fuel efficiency of your car:

1. Engine Oil Change: every vehicle requires a frequent oil change after certain run-in period. The period changes according to the model and the manufacturer. It is easy to find about the engine oil change frequency in the maintenance manual provided by the manufacturer. Ensure that you follow the chart.

Pitcrew Tip: Preferably get the vehicle serviced every 6 months or after 8 –10 kms of travel

2. Air Filter Change: changing or cleaning air filter at period intervals is necessary to ensure that none of the dust particles enter the combustion chamber. Additionally, if you check the maintenance chart, the manufacturer will provide details about the replacement time apart from regular cleaning period

Pitcrew Tip: Get the air filter changed during every service

3. Spark Plug Cleaning/Change: cleaning the spark plugs too is an indispensable part of improving the fuel efficiency of the vehicle. Maintaining the right gap for the combustion will ensure that the firing occurs accurately, without causing wear and tear on the valve heads, thus supporting the condition of the engine. If required, it is crucial to change the plugs. Following the maintenance chart is the best way to check for the replacement period.

Pitcrew Tip: Ensure that the spark plugs are cleaned in each service. Replace when faulty. As a note, remember to replace all spark plugs at once rather than replacing the faulty one only.

4. Tyre pressure: maintaining tyre pressure is another aspect that adds to the fuel efficiency of the vehicle. Improper tyre pressure levels increase the load on the engine, with an increase in consumption of the fuel.

Pitcrew Tip: Ensure that whenever you re-fuel the vehicle, get the tyre pressure checked

5. Normal Car Speed: maintaining a particular driving speed of 45 – 60 kmph, without regular gear shifts or braking, fill further help in improving the condition of the engine as well as lead to a good fuel economy

Pitcrew Tip: Maintain a driving speed of 45 – 60 kmph in city driving and turn off the engine at traffic lights

Following these simple and common tips can help improve the fuel efficiency and mileage of the vehicle by up to 10% thus bringing down the exorbitant fuel costs.
